And, FWIW, hosts.allow is pretty 'ready to go' straight from 'the box.' Lots of examples...... Also, if I remember the O.P., you're running 4.4 or 4.5----are you keeping up with patches? Surely an upgrade would be in order to address any issues that appeared over the summer...
