I have recently started getting scsi error messages on our news server
which has caused it to lock up. The machine is not heavily hit -- no
more than 5 connections at any given time. It is a P5-150, with 128MB
RAM, 256MB swap, an Adaptec 3940UW SCSI card, and 4 4GB SCSI drives
running FreeBSD 2.2.2. The drive reporting the errors is one of 2
Western Digital Enterprise drives (both are on Channel B of the 3940)
which are ccd'd for the alt.binaries groups; /etc/ccd.conf:
ccd0 128 none /dev/sd2e /dev/sd3e

I do have the following compiled into the kernel, do I want them all?
options AHC_TAGENABLE
options AHC_ALLOW_MEMIO
options AHC_SCBPAGING_ENABLE

I have also run Adaptec's "Verify Disk" on the drive, but it reported no
errors. BTW, the Enterprise drives are relatively new, 2-3 months.

Can someone please give me some insight as to what could be causing these
errors and how I can stop them?

Thank you,

Bill
