This implies a fresh ports tree, though. Otherwise, I think it any fresh package you find should work for both 2.2.8 and 3.0, but don't take my word for it. Check www.freebsd.org/java/ , but note that there's a glitch in the appletviewer of 19981221, that is fixed in the ports collection (patch-aa).
