Your premises are correct, but your conclusion may be wrong.

Sun is no longer a concern, yes, I strongly Agree. But although OpenZFS is
currently an independent project, ZFS was developed by Sun, which at the ti=
me
has several recommendations.

Today, we have no guarantee that the team responsible for OpenZFS has the s=
ame
Sun recommendations. We do not know whether these recommendations have been
reviewed by the OpenZFS team, so it would be wrong to state that "OpenZFS
recommends...".

We know that Sun made certain recommendations, but we don't actually know
whether those same recommendations were endorsed (or reviewed) by currently
OpenZFS team.
