Ok. setting hint.ed.0.disabled="0" hint.ed.0.port="0x300" Solved my problem. And as a side note, to make the change permanent, modify /boot/device.hints for the ed0 driver (or I believe it can be done via a custom kernel). Thanks for pointing me in the right direction...
