That's irellevant.  The card comes 'configured' from the factory
differently.  I don't know why, but it does. :(

(And, there are all sorts of different models as well, which behave
slightly different.)

Then the values saved in the card in non-volatile RAM are not the same
as what FreeBSD expects.  To read these values you must use the DOS
supplied program.

The other possibility is that the card is a 3C589D, which appears to be
different enough so it's not supported with the zp0 driver.
