I am in the market for an AMD64-based laptop, and am currently leaning toward the Acer Ferrari 3400, but would like to borrow a few minutes of your time to ask for suggestions on something better. I just spoke to someone at Acer, and they gave me these specs: o CPU - AMD64 3200+ (2.0 Ghz) o LAN - Broadcom BCM5788M o Wireless - Broadcom BCM4306KFB (mini-PCI, maybe replaceable with atheros-based a/b/g card????) o bluetooth / modem - CSR BC212615BEN-E4 (agere scorpio) o Via K8T800 chipset, Via VT8235CE o Phoenix BIOS (hoping for hw.acpi.s4bios=3D1) Thanks for your time and consideration, I appreciate it! (The reason that I am moving from i386 toward AMD64 is a belief that 64 bit computing is the future, and that the AMD64 will be around for a (relatively) long time, and since I can't spend thousands of $$ very often for a new PC, this (it would seem) holds the most long-term value. If you think I am way off base on that assumption, please school me!) --=20 Michael W.
