Any suggestion on how I can > bring the system backup without having to re-install. First: buy a UPS... it'll save you thousands in the long run (I'm kinda partial to my deltec's, but anything works really) Second: it all depends.. if the HD is physically damaged or has logic damage, it may be hanging the IDE controller and leaving the system 'hung' indefenetly. I have a drive that does this, no matter what operating system or FS I use. >I hope that I was clear enough with my problem and I would greatly >appreciate any help I can get. I can never stress this enough to people... UPS'es save computers, time, and lots of money in the long run. I've replaced enough spike or long-term-brownout damaged power supplies in my life to know this. I haven't replaced a power supply in well over a year, since we got UPSes... The only thing that even happens is the fan bearings go out and raise hell, but thats easily ignorable since it usually goes away after 5 minutes of being on..
