Hmm, I haven't yet heard a 'working' report from a 3C589D, so I don't
know if the 'zp' driver works with it.  I have heard that the ep driver
works, but it's a nightmare to setup right now (my fault).

What are the parameters that *DOS* (w/out card-services running) states
that the card is configured for?
