Kudos to the artist and the selecton crew. I also like it. OTOH, it reminds me a little of the Saturday morning (or maybe everyday?) block of kids shows mascot (JETIX[1]). Some JETIX images without the feet: [2] and [3]. When looking at the bottom of the winning example page[4], I like the look of the two overlapping images in the bottom-left. It almost appears that the bottom layer logo has grown a tail.
