Well, I'd probably check to see how my files differed from the new ones.  
Strictly speaking, it's not "necessarily necessary", but your code could get 
out of sync . . . I'd recommend it.  You should be able to run agin now if 
you didn't clean up the staging area for the install.

Hints don't normally show up with you log in.  Is this happening for you at 
the console mode or are you running X-windows?  I'm guessing the latter, in 
which case it's probably your window manager.
