I meant you can query which "package a specific file" belongs to, sorry.

There's also a pretty solid error recovery schema if you accidently
have problem upgrading it in that you can restart the process and
it'll continue from that point on... It's definitely worth checking
out if you haven't seen it before.

OS X's Fink project is Debian based and does very well for many that 
use it in that community folks.
