You=E2=80=99re running into the exact same issue as I did. There is way =
too much outdated documentation.
I=E2=80=99ve attempted to contribute a fix: =

That bug report contains a working configuration for a VPS that is =
running FreeBSD 10 in HVM mode, with a vanilla kernel (HVM support has =
been merged already in the 10-RELEASE kernel)
