Don't mix up ancient BSD release numbers with FreeBSD release numbers. FreeBSD 1.0 is derived from 4.4BSDlight, which in turn was developed from reno and newreno tapes. All FreeBSD versions are developed from that first FreeBSD version. Thats a couple of years between 4.3BSD, 4.4BSD, and FreeBSD 4.3.
