Setting dev.acpi_ibm.0.events=3D1 enables these ACPI events (disabled by default, because it changes the=20 default behaviour of some keys, see manpage) which can be processed by=20 devd. On my T41p Fn+F3 doesn't work as advertised as well (without setting the=20 sysctl. Setting the sysctl correctly throws an event). Unfortunately I=20 didn't have time to look into this, yet :( The problem that Fn+F7 only works on the console might be a driver bug (at= =20 least on radeon driven Thinkpads:=20 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3D2000).
