No no no - this won't work as he doesn't HAVE the ports tree isntalled.  

You can do this w/ sysinstall still.  Start up sysinstall.  Choose
distributions, then custom and scroll down.  On the 2nd page you'll find
the ports distribution.  Select and off you go!
