This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ------=_NextPart_000_0005_01C23FC0.AD0BD620 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit FBSD does not work with winmodems. You need a modem with a onboard controller. Winmodems are cheep because the controller function is handled by the software you have to install into windows. I recommend the Zoom model 3049L external modem works right out of the box. Use user ppp to dial your ISP, edit /etc/ppp/ppp.conf section papchap adding your ISP’s phone number, account name, and password. Start user ppp by entering ppp –ddial papchap on the command line to start and killall ppp to stop. -----Original Message----- From: owner-freebsd-newbies@FreeBSD.ORG [mailto:owner-freebsd-newbies@FreeBSD.ORG]On Behalf Of frank hagen Sent: Friday, August 09, 2002 3:54 PM To: newbies@freebsd.org Subject: Modem Driver Question! Hi! I am a FreeBSD newbie! I have searched around, but believe no specific FreeBSD (or general unix) driver exists for my USRobotics/3Com 56k Fax Win modem, which i use to connect to the internet (in Windows). I would like to be able to use FreeBSD to access internet, but have no idea what solution there might be other than purchasing an older modem, for which drivers might exist. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated -Frank ------=_NextPart_000_0005_01C23FC0.AD0BD620 Content-Type: text/html; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> <html xmlns:v=3D"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml" = xmlns:o=3D"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" = xmlns:w=3D"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:word" = xmlns=3D"http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40"> <head> <meta http-equiv=3DContent-Type content=3D"text/html;
