I have gone to /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xdm/Xservers and inserted the line :0 local /usr/X11R6/bin/X vt9 (to make tty8 the active one). and done all the things the FAQ tells me to do to get X working for me as user. The closest I have come is to enter "Xwrapper -vt8", when I get the familiar tiny wire mesh screen, but no progress beyond that. I am obviously close - but no cigar. Your recommendations? Please?
