Try looking in /usr/local/libexec/apache2

You need these lines in your httpd.conf:

    happy-idiot-talk:...local/etc/apache2:# grep -i php httpd.conf 
    LoadModule php4_module        libexec/apache2/libphp4.so
    DirectoryIndex index.php index.html index.html.var
    # PHP4 types
    AddType application/x-httpd-php .php
    AddType application/x-httpd-php-source .phps
