Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit I've talked to Gary at FreeBSD Support on several occassion and he has referred me to you for these questions. My EIDE2300PLUS card support two eide drives. The first drive is a 731MB Western Digital WDC AC27 00H, my second drive is a 831MB Seagate ST5850A. Both were FDISK with this eide card and formatted as well using WIN95 format. I first installed WIN95 on drive 0 and then installed FreeBSD 2.1 on drive 1. I went through the reboot procedure and incountered a problem upon reboot. a. NO ROM BIOS SYSTEM HALTED i. fixed by booting of floppy and running fdisk to set drive active. Also copied the bootinst.* from the FreeBSD CD\tools directory. Installed the bootinst program for drive 0. b. Rebooted, Dual boot worked. Kernel started loading and stopped just after: "Boot: |" System locked up. i. made it to work by changing the eide controller to a generic ide controller. ii. Problem is that my drive 0 is an eide drive and the generic ide controller will not boot it up. I have an installation diskette that has drivers for an ATT Unix and a SCO Unix. DO either of these work with FreeBSD? I seem to remember a Solaris Unix command for copying files from floppies but these don't work with FreeBSD. Is there an equivalant command? After buying two of the manuals for BSD 4.4, I'm beginning to believe that FreeBSD is Lite and not a full system to learn on. Hope I'm wrong! This is my system: 1. 486DX2/66 Intel 2. 20 MB 70ns 30pin SIMMS 3. NiCE VLB Motherboard 256K cache 230W power supply 4. Adaptec Scsi 2 card with a NEC 841 external CDROM 5. Diamond Viper VLB 2MB video card 6. 3 1/2" Teac floppy 7. Colorado Systems Jumbo 350 Tape drive 8. US Robotics Sportster 28.8k voice/data/fax modem 9. Mag Innovision DX15F Monitor All devices are using Win95 version of drive software. I'm investigating the possibility of purchasing a 1G SCSI harddrive. BUt I need to know if this system is functionally correct with FreeBSD 2.1. Thanks for your cooperation in the matter, it has been greatly appreciated.
