The way I prefer to do it is to install ports-mgmt/portconf, and then have an entry in /usr/local/etc/ports.conf of: editors/openoffice.org-*: WITHOUT_MOZILLA portconf will ensure that the WITHOUT_MOZILLA flag is passed to make(1) when you do a manual port install, or through portupgrade, or through portmaster.
