From your Xorg.0.log it looks like your manually-crafted Xorg.conf file is loading the Synaptics x11 driver, but psm(4) isn't in "synaptics" mode. Adding the above loader variable should fix that. Try using the touchpad after rebooting it with that loader variable; if it doesn't work, post the new Xorg.0.log file to this list.
