There's an easier way.

cd /usr/ports/net/aim
make depend
make 
make install

You do have to have linux emulation setup...

You might also want to check out some of the AIM
clones, which don't require linux emulation: gaim,
kinkatta, naim, tik. They are all in the ports tree...
