How important is the -X option on ld?

       -X     Delete  all temporary local symbols.  For most tar-
              gets, this is all local symbols whose  names  begin
              with `L'.

I ask because I'm porting something to Solaris and it seems rather 
odd that the solaris ld doesn't have this option.
