This is sometimes desirable if the deinitialization string does something unnecessary, like clearing the screen. And from the xterm manual page: titeInhibit (class TiteInhibit) Specifies whether or not xterm should remove remove ti or te termcap entries (used to switch between alternate screens on startup of many screen-oriented programs) from the TERMCAP string.
