OK, after reading through bsd.port.mk I see it ... > I'd recommend installing the x11*/XFree86-4-* ports (w/ devel/imake-4) > instead of the one big port (x11/XFree86-4) to avoid causing > dependency problems. Hmmmm. I saw a bunch of that crap too ... I did install the big XFree86-4 port just prior to nuking and re-installing everything. I "re-adjusted" many of the dependencies found by "pkgdb -F" from XFree86-4-libaries -> XFree86-4. I just didn't want to bring this one up as well because I didn't have good "cut-n-paste" text to accompany the behavior, but it explains it now that I've read through bsd.port.mk a bit .... > I personally believe that the XFree86-4 port should immediately be > changed to a meta port of those reasonably and conveniently divided > XFree86-4-* ports, but the maintainers do not seem to feel like doing > it somehow. ;) Hmmmm.... yeah, I'm tending to agree with you there .... I'll take your advice and install the individual pieces and see how that clears up things.
