Hey, I had this. I installed ELF XFree86 and it rewrote the /usr/X11R6/bin/X link to point at XF86_SVGA instead of my usual Xaccel. I decided to stay with XF86_SVGA for a few days for kicks but scrolling was so slow (the card is an 8Mb MGA Mill II) that I swapped back. I don't remember it being this slow last time I tried it and the MGA is supposed to be one of XFree86's faster servers :-(.
