I have an AMD 486-80, a Seagate SCSI drive (id 0), a SCSI Toshiba CD-ROM reader (id 5), Asus PCI motherboard PVI-486SP3 PCB Rev. 1.2 (or higher), Award Modular BIOS v4.50G. I've booted from the floppies on the FreeBSD 2.0 release CD, but since there isn't a driver for the 2940 in that kernel, the card isn't recognized and there are no disks to partition with fdisk. However, I have read the troubleshooting document available there, and turned off extended BIOS translation for >1GB disks, as well as trying to boot with /kernel -c. However, the config commands seem to apply only to devices on the ISA bus. On probing for devices on the PCI bus, these are the messages generated: Probing for devices on the pci0 bus: configuration mode 1 allows 32 devices. pci0:5: vendor=0x1039, device=0x496, class=bridge [not supported] vga0 rev 0 on pci0:10 ahc0 rev 0 int a irq 11 on pci0:12 ahc0: reading board settings ahc0: 294x Single Channel, SCSI Id=7, aic7870, 16 SCBs ahc0: Downloading Sequencer Program...Done ahc0: Probing channel A ahc0 waiting for scsi devices to settle ahc0: no active SCB for reconnecting target 15, channel B - issuing ABORT SAVED_TCL == 0x0 ahc0: ahcintr - referenced scb not valid during seqint 0x71 scb(15) ahc0: WARNING no command for scb 15 (cmdcmplt) QOUTCNT == 0 The boot hangs here. The messages prompt a question: why is target 15 being tested? 2940 cards support 8 SCSI IDs, 0 to 7. Any help would be much appreciated. thanks, graham Wed Apr 5 15:08:17 EDT 1995 ===== Graham Gill Internet: graham@ca.cch.com Programmer Tel.: +1-416-441-{4001,2992} x320 Editorial Technology Dept.
