Works fine for me on 4.10-STABLE and 5.2.1-RELEASE-p9 with the recommended
libmap.conf entries and..

firefox-0.9.1 (mozilla-1.7.1,2)
linuxpluginwrapper-20040310_2
linux-flashplugin-6.0r79_1
esound-0.2.34

I have esd listening on localhost with TCP.
