If the port is currently maintained by ports@FreeBSD.org, someone will commit the update and change you to the maintainer. If there's actually an inactive maintainer listed, you should Cc: them in the PR. They'll either respond saying "ok, Tim can have maintainership" or in 2 weeks it'll be a maintainer timeout and somebody will be able to commit it. --pete
