FreeBSD as a whole is not encumbered. that was whole issue over the UNIX license issues way back when (which indirectly led Linus Torvalds to write Linux). Further releasing the burden has been seen with the replacement of GCC with CLANG to get the core OS to be as close to 100% BSD licensed.
