RSA is protected by patent in the US only. Patent prevents its use except with the permission of the patent holder. The patent holder has two ways which allow the use of the patented technology in the US. Either thorough a product specifically licensed, or throught the use of the rsaref code(for non-comercial use). The reason this applies only in the US, is that at the time of the patent application, US patent law allow patents to be granted for applications made up to one year after the publication. The rest of teh world requires the patent be applied for prior to publication. The basic algorithims for public-key encryption that make up the RSA patent were published before thr patent application was made in the US, therefore the patent is only vaild in the US. I may have some of the details wrong but I believe that is the gist of it. > -- > -- David (obrien@NUXI.com) > > > To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org > with "unsubscribe cvs-all" in the body of the message > Brian Beattie | The only problem with beattie@aracnet.com | winning the rat race ... www.aracnet.com/~beattie | in the end you're still a rat To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe cvs-all" in the body of the message
