Subject: Dial in connection using USR modem

Hello,

I hope someone can help me, please!!.

I am running FreeBSD 4.3, A few weeks ago I set up a USR 33.6 FaxModem =
( about 4 years old) to my first serial port (COM1). Everything worked =
fine, the getty started at 19200 and I could connection using =
Reflections of Hyperterminal at a fixed speed of 19200.

I had to shut the system down yesterday, in order to move the server. I =
now get a login prompt. I connect ok, the modem answers but I get =
garbage. I have tried hitting return once per second and sending a =
break. I cannot figure out what is going on????? I have a getty process =
running fine. I did however get one message from Reflections (during my =
many dial attempts) saying the COM port could not be configured, but I =
think this relates to my laptop modem

I have a new USR 56K Faxmodem. I have tried this before but could not =
get it to work.

Can you help me to do either on of two things:

1) Troubleshoot the 33.6 modem to get it working
2) Tell me how to set up the new USR 56K FaxModem

Many thanks

Martin Quinn
