BTW, i think it's bad that root can be unmounted by user. Yes, but simply setting that sysctl is not sufficient for volumes to show up in Nautilus. You must also own the mount point. If you login as root, then you may see a volume for every entry in fstab. However, we do not recommend using GNOME as root.
