As far as I know, he was associated because he sent these announcements to freebsd-announce until February 2005 [1]. In November 2005, Bob Bruce sent an announcement [2] about 6.0-RELEASE, however no other announcements were made after then (and no reduced price options were mentioned in that message). Based on this, Bob Bruce or anybody else at FreeBSDMall should be interviewed about the status of the statement in question. I will do this.
