Please use gtkextra2 for your work. The "old" gtkextra which is in the ports at the moment, is actually 0.99.17, a kind of beta release. I still think you're safe, by letting that one go and simply pushing it up to the latest version. Soon, the new scigraphica will be committed, as Michael Johnson is working on it right now.
