Any > help is greatly appreciated. read the pkg-message for openoffice. if you had before, you would've saved yourself a lot of time, as it explains that openoffice will not make properly on any system below 4.6.2-STABLE. you're running 4.6.2-RELEASE, hence the reason for the error. if you consider yourself a relatively inexperienced user, i'd recommend not shifting to the -STABLE branch. if you're just looking for a decent word processor, try AbiWord. it can open/create/read .doc files, if that's of particular importance to you. - erk!
