Hi:

I had a 150 days perfect working of my FreeBSD 2.2.6 machine (P200 Dell
with SCSI 4GB /,/usr,/var and IDE 3GB /home). The system started crashing
without any /var/log/messages and rebooted with the error message
indicated in the attachment.

I have isolated the machine and used the /home (old drive) and ran with a
new OS and new HD for / /usr and /var but it showed crashing phenomena
same after successful working of 3 days.

Please help me in this regard.

Abid Latif

Current Machine : Intel Based PII with 64MB 2x3.2GB IDE HDD
HDD Config	: One HDD for /, /usr, /var (/swap and /proc)
		  Second HDD for /home
		  NIC SMC 9332BDT de0

Machine got held. No entry even through the console. Cold restart was made.
System crashed without any /var/log/messages entry. Afterwards machine kept
on rebooting after every 20-25 minutes with this type of message:

Fatal trap error 12 while in kernel mode
Fault virtual address:
Fault Code : Supervisor write page not found
Stack point:

interrupt mask :
Panic : Page fault
Current Process : tar (it varies)
Host id

Autorebooting the system
sync

.......
The daemons running are:
telnet, ftp, http, page, vm, syslog, lp, sendmail, comsats

We changed the system with the following hardware setting also.

Old Machine (Dell 200MMX SCSI HDD and /home HDD 64MB RAM)
Crashed
New Machine (Dell 200MMX Old SCSI and HDD same RAM)
Crashed
Old Machine (Dell 200MMX Old SCSI and HDD new RAM)
Crashed
Old Machine (Dell 200MMX Old SCSI and new HDD new RAM)
Crashed

The machine is now a new one with new kernel and new HDDs. Only httpd and
pine are two programs which have been copied from the old machine. Also
the NIC of the machine is also older one. It continued to work for 48+
hours but then crashed again twice with the same error. What might be the
error ? OS has also been upgraded from 2.2.6 to 2.2.7

Another 24 hrs has passwd now and machine has not crashed.
