Data overrun. The two modems are not agreeing on a speed!
Slow it down and try it, Suggest 19200 for starters! (Or lower)
Then work your way back up to whatever!

Also if you can post your NVRAM (hayes: AT&V) settings there may
be more I can suggest
as well as your 'adam' config.
