No!  Not compressed!  Then I can't use stuff directly off the CD!
If it is compressed, it ISN'T a "live" CD anymore.

As for other alternates, I think a CVS tree would be Mega Nifty.  
The mailing list archives (uncompressed) take up about 150meg at the 
moment.  I can definately see some utility in including them.
