Quick clarification as this statement could be misunderstood--
More heat grease (heatsink paste) as in adding a thicker layer will increase 
temps if nothing else.
Less is more. Unless you have none. The thinner the layer, the better. Even 
the really excellent pastes like Arctic Silver are terrible at heat 
conduction compared to the copper plate of the heatsink itself, which is 
where you want to go in the first place. The paste is for filling in the 
tiny gaps and imperfections in both the heatsink and CPU, and is especially 
useful when using cheap heatsinks with a rough surface.
