I have set aside 512MB as swap. I am running the tvtwm window manager. In tvtwm's icon manager, I clicked on one of the windows (to iconify it), and the cursor (which changed shape to a watch), froze, so did the dclock. The disk activity L.E.D. remained on for about 2 minutes. after that, all windows died, and I got the xdm daemon's login banner. Perhaps the Xfree86 people should know of this?
