It all depends what UPS software you plan to use. For example, upsd only
supports the APC Smart-UPS, but NUT supports Back-UPS Pro (and maybe
BackUPS). I'd pick the software first and then select a UPS that it will
talk to. I believe NUT is the most comprehensive open UPS software
available.
