You don't want to install linux_mesa3 because that is software mesa. If it was not finding the libGL from linux_dri.so, then you need to figure out what was going on with that. If you are using XFree86 4.2.0 you need an updated linux_dri which I haven't finished quite yet because of DRM issues I'm working on.
