Hi,

my guess is, that they are very well responsible for the error message.
Maybe Firefox does cause the issue, but fastmail could provide better
error messages. "sending failed, due to freakish character encoding or
foo timed out or..."

Do you fake an IP using an add-on or something similar?

As a first troubleshooting step I would run firefox from command line in
safe-mode

  firefox --safe-mode
