Wow, I'm glad it could continue to be of help even though it's so out of date now. > I'm trying to get FreeBSD 2.0.5 up on my TP 755C. Hmm, I don't remember if loading from a DOS drive worked in 2.0.5. > I'd really rather install off of CD, but I haven't had any luck getting > FreeBSD to recognize the SCSI controller & CD-ROM in the TP Dock I. I *think* the controller on the Dock is supported by 2.1, but I'm not sure since I don't have access to one. > If all else fails, I'm probably going to track down a desktop machine to > install to, and then build my own customized TPAD kernel. Can you point > me to step-by-step info on how to do this? You need *lots* of space. Basically, you need space for an entire distribution. See /usr/src/release/Makefile. What I did was modify the GENERIC kernel definition to use PCVT instead of syscons and then build a new release, which builds new boot floppies. This is a very long and slow process, but at the time I was desparate to get it working on my box. (Which it still is). Once I got it started, I used my ethernet card to load it. The 3C589B card is supported by FreeBSD, so it may be easier to get one of those (if you can afford it) to load the distribution. It worked for me. > Lastly, how's the fishing out in God's country this time of year? It's slowed down pretty good a couple weeks ago when we got snow, but I'm hoping to get out at least one more time if we get a warm weekend. The Missouri is pretty fishable all but Dec.-March, so I've got another couple weeks to try and catch some more big ones. > I've just moved to > North Carolina, and am told there is some good stream fishing up in the > Appalachians, but I haven't gotten out yet. It's certainly tough to get out with life being so busy, but I find that if I don't do something I start to become less productive at work. And, since my boss is an avid fly-fisherman himself, it's pretty easy to justify taking an afternoon off every once in a while. Nate
