The "free" in free software means you're free to do whatever you want with it. If it doesn't meet your criteria as-is, you're free to change it. If you get FreeBSD tweaked into an acceptable state for commercial applications, FreeBSD jobs will be available, and you can make it your day job. If it's unacceptable in those installations, you'll get stuck with an inferior commercial even if it's a high-availability installation and OS defects cause it to drop out to the ROM monitor.
