I've posted a respon to Takahashi Yoshihiro suggesting a couple of possible paths, none of which should be attempted before 4.3-RELEASE: divergent MAKEDEV's for pc98 and i386, and fixing AD to meet their needs. I guess I fell for the constant bombardment of "AD is perfect, we will all use AD" -- apparently that didn't take PC98 into account. In any case, an interesting exercise, and one we should attempt to address in the post-release scenario.
