Ditto in all respects, except that I have only a WDE-4360 U2W drive.
The aic7890 is onboard on a Dell Poweredge dual PII. With 5.1.0pre3
built into the kernel, I get

(scsi0) <Adaptec AIC-7890/1 Ultra2 SCSI host adapter> found at PCI 4/0
(scsi0) Wide Channel, SCSI ID=7, 32/255 SCBs
(scsi0) Downloading sequencer code... 407 instructions downloaded

Everything is default values in the adaptec setup and the BIOS.

The BIOS resets at IC init time already -- I'll check for no_reset,
but I certainly didn't set it at config time.
