For someone building docs > who normally has LANG set to de_CH.ISO_8859-1, should docs in a > de_DE.ISO_8859-1 subdirectory be built? I looked /usr/share/locale and found that: # some fields, such as owner, is discarded in the following ls output. $ ls -l /usr/share/locale/de_DE.ISO_8859-1/ lrwxr-xr-x LC_COLLATE@ -> ../lt_LN.ISO_8859-1/LC_COLLATE lrwxr-xr-x LC_CTYPE@ -> ../lt_LN.ISO_8859-1/LC_CTYPE -rw-r--r-- LC_TIME $ ls -l /usr/share/locale/de_AT.ISO_8859-1/ lrwxr-xr-x LC_COLLATE@ -> ../lt_LN.ISO_8859-1/LC_COLLATE lrwxr-xr-x LC_CTYPE@ -> ../lt_LN.ISO_8859-1/LC_CTYPE lrwxr-xr-x LC_TIME@ -> ../de_DE.ISO_8859-1/LC_TIME $ ls -l /usr/share/locale/de_CH.ISO_8859-1/ lrwxr-xr-x LC_COLLATE@ -> ../lt_LN.ISO_8859-1/LC_COLLATE lrwxr-xr-x LC_CTYPE@ -> ../lt_LN.ISO_8859-1/LC_CTYPE lrwxr-xr-x LC_TIME@ -> ../de_DE.ISO_8859-1/LC_TIME de_AT.ISO_8859-1, de_CH.ISO_8859-1 and de_DE.ISO_8859-1 seem to be same ;-) I don't know the diffrence of `AT', `CH' and `DE' and also don't know which locale is most used in Germany. So, > I suppose this boils down to the extracting the various > components of the LANG variable and using a "best match" > algorithm to choose which translation to build and/or install. how about fix the locale for each country(or language area)? I don't know this is good or bad. Isn't there European ``expert'' in this mailing list? > Barring any complaints, I see no problem with committing the > Japanese translation as described. You mean sgmlfmt will refer LANG environment variable in near future? BTW, In the FreeBSD installation procedure, I think (original) English version should be installed when a user selects to install `docs' and also he can select in submenu whether he want to install the translated docs. -----H.Hanai
